The attempt of the photographic and analytical exploration is to extract the ‘consciousness of place’, a complex concept rich in meanings that have stratified over time, in people and in stones. In this volume, ‘consciousness’ expresses the mobile multitude of character, the hidden and profound tangle that connotes the ‘feeling’ of Biella and its territory; it expresses both its ‘habito’ and its disposition to transformation, its aptitude to mould the inevitable technological and social changes into responsible and lasting development. How to grasp – today, in the fluid and agitated era of the new globalisation – the ‘spirits’ that inhabit places? This theoretical and practical adventure in the territory points a way.
Il tentativo della esplorazione fotografica e analitica è di estrarre la “coscienza di luogo”, un concetto complesso e ricco di significati che si sono stratificati nel tempo, nelle persone e nelle pietre. In questo volume la “coscienza” esprime la mobile moltitudine del carattere, l’intrico nascosto e profondo, che connota il “sentimento” di Biella e del suo territorio; esprime insieme il suo “habito” e la sua disposizione alla trasformazione, la sua attitudine a plasmare gli inevitabili cambiamenti tecnologici e sociali in sviluppo responsabile e duraturo. Come afferrare – oggi, nell’era fluida e agitata della nuova globalizzazione – gli “spiritelli” che abitano i luoghi? Quest’avventura teorica e pratica nel territorio indica una via.
