Swiss Talks is a series of meetings dedicated to the orientations of contemporary architecture in Switzerland, from 2023 curated by Francesca Chiorino
Three evenings during 2024 are aimed at investigating the intersections between architecture and territory: how can architecture bring out the identities of places? Can architecture influence communities’ perceptions of their territories? Can public space be considered ‘educating’? Can a landscape architect contribute to strengthening the identity of place?
Architects and landscape architects working on territorial issues are involved to try to provide answers – necessarily not definitive – to these questions. To further reinforce the central theme, the city in which the meeting is held is not indifferent to the topic being addressed, but rather conditions the choices.
Designing on water, using water as an element of design and protecting oneself from water, different attitudes linked to a unifying and primordial element, which will be the leitmotif of interventions straddling architecture and landscape in fragile contexts in Switzerland – with projects by the De Molfetta Strode and LOCALARCHITECTURE studios in the first part of the meeting – and in the Venetian lagoon, with Michela De Poli’s closing speech.
Valuable ecosystems to be preserved, territories lacking identity and history, and areas threatened by climatic and technological upheavals are the areas of fragility that this meeting investigates, dwelling on the educational power of water, an element of recreation and play and at the same time a precious source of life, to be recognised as central in a fluid process of awareness and civic education.

Tre serate nel corso del 2024 sono volte a indagare le intersezioni tra architettura e territorio: come l’architettura può far emergere le identità dei luoghi? L’architettura può incidere sulla percezione che le comunità hanno dei propri territori di appartenenza? Lo spazio pubblico può considerarsi “educante”? Un paesaggista può contribuire a rafforzare l’identità di luogo?
Per provare a dare delle risposte ‒ necessariamente non definitive ‒ a questi interrogativi sono coinvolti architetti e paesaggisti che lavorano su tematiche territoriali. A ulteriormente rafforzare il tema centrale, la città in cui l’incontro si tiene non è indifferente all’argomento che viene affrontato, bensì ne condiziona le scelte.
Progettare sull’acqua, usare l’acqua come elemento di progetto e proteggersi dall’acqua, attitudini diverse legate a un elemento unificatore e primigenio, che sarà il filo conduttore di interventi a cavallo tra architettura e landscape in contesti fragili in Svizzera –con progetti degli studi De Molfetta Strode e LOCALARCHITECTURE nella prima parte dell’incontro– e nella laguna veneta, con l’intervento in chiusura di Michela De Poli.
Preziosi ecosistemi da preservare, territori privi di identità e storia, aree minacciate da sconvolgimenti climatici e tecnologici sono gli ambiti di fragilità che questo incontro indaga, soffermandosi sul potere educativo dell’acqua, elemento di svago e di gioco e al tempo stesso fonte preziosa di vita, a cui riconoscere centralità in un processo fluido di consapevolezza ed educazione civica.
